toyotauniforToday we announced that the campaign to unionize Toyota will escalate. We’ll be turning up our efforts to ensure we’re in touch with every single team member.

Despite a message from TMMC President saying he wants us to have a vote, Toyota filed a 54-page objection to holding the vote. TMMC has made it clear that it’s opposing this vote and will obstruct it at every stage. At the same time, the company is failing to address team members’ legitimate concerns.

Toyota finally released its employee list. We found that the number of employees on the list is much larger than the company claimed in other public statements and documents.

We had a tough decision to make. We could engage in a lengthy legal battle – or we could build on the momentum we have and get more cards signed. We chose the latter.

Instead of going to a vote next week, we’ll be taking the time to build more support so there can be no dispute over the numbers and we can move to a strong vote to win a union.

For that reason, Unifor is temporarily withdrawing its application. This pause will allow us to get more cards signed. If you know anyone who is on the fence and has not signed a card, now is the time for them to do it! Sign your card!

Unifor and Toyota team members remain determined to improving the working conditions at Toyota. This is just a temporary delay.

We’re in this together to win. Together we can do this. Let’s get it done!
