Dear President-Dias:- -

On behalf of the more than one million active and retired members of the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace & Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW), I’m writing to express our solidarity and support to UNIFOR and the 7,000 Canadian employees of Toyota Motors as they approach their historic election on union representation at the three Company facilities in Ontario.

The UAW is firmly committed to global organizing efforts and to giving our full support to great unions like UNIFOR who are taking on these critically important campaigns. As we know from our own history in North America there is no middle class without strong unions and workers winning their fair share of the success of their employers through collective bargaining. The expansion of non-union automotive production in North America threatens middle-class living standards for auto workers on both sides of the border. Only through the strategic and comprehensive campaigns like UNIFOR is conducting at Toyota will we be able to successfully re-build working class power in the automotive industry.

UAW members strongly support the Toyota workers in Ontario in their struggle to win UNIFOR representation.

In solidarity,

Bob King

International President, UAW
