prideUnifor is getting ready for a busy and exciting pride season. This year is an important and historic year for the LGBT members in Unifor. Not only is Toronto hosting World Pride, where thousands of people from all around the world will gather in the city, but it is the first opportunity that we have had to show off our new union at pride.

The Toronto area LGBT activists have been working to build a magnificent Unifor pride float that will reflect the theme of this year’s pride “rise up” and Unifor’s slogan of “a union for everyone.

At this year’s pride we are also going to have National President Jerry Dias walking alongside LGBT activists and leadership. The parade starts at 1:00 pm sharp on Sunday, June 29, leaving from Rosedale Valley Road – just look for the Unifor flags and float. Unifor leaders, activists and staff will be assembling as of 12:15 pm on Rosedale Valley Road.

Right after the parade, there will be a Unifor-organized social with food and drinks – everyone is welcome. The social will take place at the Bond Place Hotel at 65 Dundas St. E, Toronto. For those who will be in town for the weekend, you can also check out the Unifor table set up in the community area at Yonge St. and Isabella St. on Saturday.  OPSEU has also opened up its regional office and there will be a display of labour LBGT activists over the decades set up at 31 Wellesley St. E.
