The Corolla’s popularity in Canada has only grown since the company started manufacturing the vehicle in Cambridge in the late 1980s, as an article on, a division of the Toronto Star examines.

“Canadians have made the Corolla their own in many ways — from building the Corolla to the highest quality standards in the world, to buying them one million times,” the article from 2007 says.

“It has been honoured with six CAA Pyramid Awards for overall vehicle ownership satisfaction, and has been named Best Compact Car five times in the Initial Quality Study from J.D. Power and Associates.”

It has won even more awards since.
